More electricity issues
The year is only three days old and already we have had three power failures at home.
On the night of 1 January, the power went at 21h30 and came back at 02h30 - five hours later.
Yesterday, the power went out at 14h30 and returned at 15h30.
The minister of home affairs just let me know that it went out for another hour earlier today.
That's already seven hours of power failure in just the first three days of the year. It looks like we are in for a rough year on the power front again.
This morning I read this on News 24:
Johannesburg - Power capacity will be strained in 2008 but gas turbines stations and the reopening of old stations will help to deal with the load, Eskom said on Wednesday.
Sipho Neke from the Eskom media desk said the maintenance of Eskom's generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure would continue until the end of summer, bringing with it the likelihood of further load shedding.
"This is critical to ensure optimum performance of the system (during winter). This means the risk of load shedding remains," said Neke.
It appears there is not just a risk - it is happening already!
