Please do not wish me a happy Valentine's day
I do not celebrate Saint Valentine's Day for two main reasons:
1. I am not Catholic.
I do not believe in honouring so-called saints on saints' days.
Biblically, all born-again believers are saints. There is only one
mediator - Jesus Christ. For the same reason, I do not celebrate Saint
Andrew's Day, Saint Patrick's Day, etc. etc. Do you go fishing on the day of whoever is the patron saint of fishermen? If not, you are not being consistent.
2. Prescribed romance is not romantic. If I am buying flowers, going to dinner, etc. just because that's what is prescribed for a certain day, I have news for you: that's not romantic. Romance comes from the heart and not from Hallmark or the Roman Church. I buy flowers and take my beloved on dates etc. throughout the year because I love her deeply and want to express that in different ways at different times, not because someone tells me to. Acting in accordance with custom is ritual, not romance.
