I lost 0.8kg this past week. Unfortunately, I have the flu and as a result cannot exercise this week, so next weekend's weigh-in may not be a good one. I just hope that my cholesterol reading next month is as encouraging.
Weigh-in history so far:
5 January: 85.7kg
12 January: 84.5kg (1.2kg loss)
19 January: 84.7kg (0.2kg gain)
26 January: 84.1kg (0.6kg loss)
2 February: 83.9kg (0.2kg loss)
9 February 83.1kg (0.8kg loss)
Total loss: 2.6kg (5.7 pounds)
Still to lose: 1.1kg (2.4 pounds)
Well, Saturday was the weekly weigh-in day, and although I lost only 0.2kg, at least the weight loss has continued.

The weekend was exceptionally busy for the minister of home affairs and me - rushing around getting insurance quotes for the minister's car, taking the cat to the vet for miliary eczema treatment, shopping, mowing the lawn, cleaning the house, etc. etc. So there was not much "rest" involved.
Nonetheless, on Saturday morning I did my weekly weigh-in, and, unlike last week, this week was good news.
I lost 0.6kg, bringing me to a total mass of 84.1kg. That translates to a net loss of 1.6kg, with another 2.1kg to lose. I have also lost a total of 4cm around the waist to 93cm.
So the weight issue seems to be going well, but I have to wait until March to find out whether my lifestyle change has had any effect on my cholesterol levels.

I weighed in again on Saturday morning, and was horrified to see that I had gained 0.2kg (0.44 pounds)!
My mass had risen from 84.5kg (186.3 pounds) to 84.7kg (186.73 pounds) despite eating very healthily and walking for an hour every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The minister of home affairs says I must not be alarmed, as the gain may be an increase in muscular mass because of the exercise. So I am not panicking just yet, although it's pretty disheartening to work so hard and have the scale give one a raspberry.
With my target mass being 82kg, I now have 2.7kg (5.6 pounds) left to lose. I'd really like to get the weight issue out of the way so that the only issue left is the cholesterol.

First off, please don't tell me about the AFC championship game - because of the time zone difference I recorded it (it started at 10pm here last night) and the minister of home affairs and I are planning to watch it this evening.
Yesterday we spent the day at the minister of home affairs' aunt, who was celebrating her 60th birthday, while the day before we shopped for low-cholesterol foods to take with us. The minister made a very impressive fruit platter as well as some wholewheat cucumber sandwiches. It was a good move - everyone there piled in. Not that there wasn't food there already - just that the minister's was better!
It was all quite pleasant - I just wish the weekend had not flown by so quickly!
I returned to work today after a two-week summer vacation that seems to have just whizzed by.
During the first week the minister of home affairs came down with a stomach bug that lasted several days, but I am glad to say she recovered well. Before that, we celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary and spent a lovely day together. We celebrated with a wonderful lunch at Glenburn Lodge.
We spent quite a few days painting the inside of the house (I even spent my birthday painting!) to get the place ready to sell. There is still quite a lot to do, so our next few weekends have been planned for us!
Christmas was great. The minister and I spent the 24th cooking the next day's meal. Her parents joined us after church for a good meal and a very pleasant day. On the menu was tea and pannetone, followed by a lunch of mashed potato, roast vegetables, a cauliflower bake, haggis, Cornish hens and apricot turkey, and then dessert: Scottish Christmas pudding, ice cream and pumpkin pie (a tradition we have adopted from America). It was a veritable feast, and we were still eating it days later!
So now I am back at work. God willing, we will spend Christmas this year with my family in East London. Just 358 days to go!
What's your favorite thing to drink when it's cold outside?
If your Vox Neighborhood had a potluck dinner tonight, what dish, drink or dessert would you bring?
Bobotie!
It is a traditional South African dish that is absolutely delicious.
In fact, it is so delicious, I think it would be a crime against humanity not to share the recipe with you. So I shall do so at the earliest opportunity. There are several recipes on the internet, but most of the ones I have seen are awful or not even genuine bobotie, so I shall dig my recipe up and post it here.
For a full sit-down dinner with several guests, would you rather be the one cooking or do you prefer to just show up and eat?
Depends on my mood really. Sometimes I love to cook up a feast, but I guess mostly I like to arrive and eat. I always offer to wash the dishes though!
