Oscars, indeed. Why on earth would I want to watch a whole bunch of actors patting each other on the back for doing their job?
Doctors, nurses, charity workers, firemen, teachers ... so many people do meaningful jobs every day, jobs that have a significant impact on our lives and on society, and yet they are not honoured.
But dress up, spend some time in a fantasy world where you recite some lines someone else wrote and the whole world watches while your colleagues give you a little golden dolly and sings your praises.
There's something fundamentally wrong with that.
